Depression is a feeling that you experience when something terrible happens and you just can’t deal with it. Although depression is recently found out to have serious effects if it occurs for a long periods of time, the real causes of depression aren’t well defined. When it comes to depression causes, there are several theories that suggest numerous reasons, both internal and external factors.
With the cause of depression, there are other theories related to genetics. The family and their behavior have a tendency toward depression. There are many studies and research that has discovered family members who are affected by this mental illness have a genetic structure that is extremely different from family members who are unaffected by depression.
It’s been reported that changes in the brain makeup or even brain functions may be one of the causes of depression. While there’s no clear proof of brain functionality or genetics as being suspected towards depression, there is plenty research data to suggest that this is the case.
The other factors that are thought to be the causes of depression are low self esteem and pessimism. With these mood traits an individual suffering from low self esteem will regard themselves with feelings of pessimism, hopelessness, a wish to end their life and probably even efforts at suicide. In this case he or she who suffers from low self esteem and depression will only see the negative sides of life. These low self esteem and pessimistic feelings may be some of the factors, as they raise the response towards depression.
A person who is overwhelmed by stress can also easily become depressed. All pressures that someone deals with in his or her lives and the great expectations that are placed on him or her contribute to this feeling of stress. Consequently as more stress enters someone lives depression begins to set in. Low self esteem, stress and pessimism are said to be psychological causes of depression.
Any physical changes that occur to our bodies are also included as other causes of depression. Serious medical conditions like Parkinson’s disease, heart attacks, strokes and diabetes can make a person believe that there is nothing worthwhile living for. This emotional state in many occasions leads the individual towards depression phase. By feeling depressed the rate of healing is delayed.
Overall, while it’s not completely understandable what the exact causes of depression are, there’s agreement that certain physical, emotional, and genetic traits can be the factors. Whatever the actual cause is, the end result is that the sufferer has a very poor quality of life. Hence before we have clear evidence about the real causes of depression , all that we can do is to help the sufferer become better.
